BIG GUY IN DESIGN!

Saturday, October 25, 2008

So last night I went to work after typing up a large proposal for a new haunted house idea. FrightWorld is thinking of replacing one or two houses, and I thought I would pitch the idea of Mayan Temple (seeing as human sacrafice tends to hit a sore spot with most people). I drew some detailed drawings (thank you architecture classes) and typed up details, as well as a decent intro and cover page. I brought it in last night, and was showing a maintanance guy as the managers walked by. They grabbed it, looked at it, and took it to the owner.

The owner loved the idea and said it will be considered, but more importantly, he loved the drawings. He wants to add me to his design crew to design houses! On top of this, he needed a lead sculptor. I happen to be a sculptor. He no longer needs a lead sculptor!

Also, they would like to hire Hallway 7 Design (my graphic design company) to re-build and re-design their site for next year!

I finally made it, mom!

Folk!

Thursday, October 23, 2008

So today I was talking to my Folklore professor in her office, and she mentioned Bruce Springsteen. I told her that I wasn't a huge fan of his for a couple of reasons. 1.) He slurs his lyrics like he's drunk, and B.) he overcompliactes the music with like 50 different instruments all filling similar positions. Literally too many bells and whistles. Well, she then said to me "Well then, you're not going to class today." I was upset because I thought I was being punished for not liking Sprinsteen, but then she said that I had to sit in her office for an hour and listen to him. I decided Springsteen is actually somewhat good, but I really only like his Seeger Sessions stuff.

Speaking of folk music, Peggy Seeger (daughter of the famous Pete Seeger) is releasing a new album, and she just released a new song called Sarah's Hard Rock Candy. It's a political song about Sarah Palin. She posted a video for it on her YouTube, so check it out

Another good song to look up is The List by John McCutcheon. It's a funny song that anyone from Syracuse should relate to if you lived there post 911.

Most Screwed Up Thing Ever

Monday, October 20, 2008

Tonight I was working, playing a different role than my normal zombie> I was a cloaked ancient of the woods tonight. I scared a group of about 6-7 girls that were about 7-8 years old, and there were two fathers with them there. I scared them so bad that the girls fell on the stairs, and knocked the dads over. One of the girls said "Mr. Manoplitz (sounded something like that), I'm going to call you dad from now on. Actually, I'll call you big daddy like my daddy likes." The two fathers turn and look at the girl, and so did I. One of them said "Um. We need to talk," and the girl said "ok."

That's just messed up.

Here's a pic of me in my ancient uniform, though.

Also, Fright World will be on the Travel Channel on their list of top haunted houses on October 26. So watch it!

Been Working

Tuesday, October 15, 2008

I've been working a lot scaring people for hours and hours on end. I made a girl cower on a cave floor in fetal position, I made another girl urinate herself, I made a girl fall in a waterfall. So I've been doing well. I'm working every day that we're open until the end of the season, so feel free to come and find me in the Wicked Woods at Fright World.

New Job: Zombie Pics!

Saturday, October 11, 2008

I started my new job tonight.

At the end of every night, three rewards are given out and I won all three out of 50+ actors. My house (Wicked Woods) won Best House of the Night. Then I personally won Best Monster (Scarer) of the night. Then I co-won the award for Best Scare (individual scare attempt) of the night with another monster in my house. All of the reasons were explained to me. My house (Wicked Woods) won because of all of the monsters in it and their strategies. There's a log cabin, and one of our guys chases people out with a chainsaw. Then, the visitors go on a wooden bridge over a bog where I hide, along with 2 bog monsters, and a necromancer. We won as a house because we made 3 people urinate in their pants. Lol. I won best monster because I would climb up the rails of the bridge and chase the visitors. The best scare was when myself and one of the bog monsters freak out this really ghetto guy. He ran ahead of his group because the chainsaw guy scared him so much. He was running along the bridge, and the bog monster jumped up behind him. He stopped, and turned around to find his friend, and saw the monster. He started to run, then I climbed the bridge and jumped in front of him. He zig-zagged for a minute or so, then DOVE off the bridge and ran out of the house. I won pizza, soda, and nachos because of these three awards. Good first night! Here's some pictures of my undead rogue:

Cute Story

Thursday, October 9, 2008

Today I was walking to class from the jewelry studio, when a woman approached me.

She was in my ANT101 class last year, and sat in front me. One day in class, we were talking about heritage and she said she didn't know her's because she was adopted, but she thought she was 25% Irish. I responded "That's all it takes!"

Today she said to me that she's never belonged to an ethnic group, and that she never felt welcome by any heritage. Until I said that. She was a 40 something mom that never knew her family.

Well, that day because if my comment she decided to research her parents, and as a result, found out she was 90% Irish.

She thanked me over and over again, and all I could say is "Us Mcs don't care if you're 5%, 1%, or 100%. If you want to be with us, then that's good enough for us."

She's thinking of continuing her studies of Anthropology in Ireland now.

The moral of the story:

Give a compliment at every available opportunity, and accept people. You never know when it will change a life.

Best Job. You Can Bet your Life on it

Wednesday, October 8, 2008

I've been applying to local haunted houses for a couple of weeks, and found one I really liked called Fright World. Around the room there are entrences to different haunted houses. 5 in total. The building is an old department store strip mall, so it's huge. I went to the interview today and had to act out 3 parts. I've never acted before, but I've seen it done. lol. I had to act like a zombie, then a mummy, then make one up. I decided to go for a zombie witch doctor. The interviewer sat me down and said "I had 20+ interviews today, and I haven't said this to anyone, but you have the job. You know how to sound and act truely, purely evil."

I'll be working Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday nights from now until Halloween from 5pm to 1am. I will be playing a zombie witch doctor (most likely) in the Haunted Woods.

This place is sick. They have a room in The House of the Dead where a butcher is cutting up a corpse, and out of some kitchen, swinging doors comes another one with a chainsaw. They had to pad the wall across the way cuz people were running into it, and one girl got knocked out running into it. Lol.

It'll be fun. I'd do it for free, but I get paid.

I'll post a pic of me in uniform sometime.
This place is hugely popular. Last Saturday within 8 hours 2.5k people went through there.

Meg's New Haircut

Monday, October 6, 2008

Meg got a new haircut for her birthday. It looks good, but it's a lot shorter than it has been in the past year or so. It'll take some getting used to, but she can't look bad.

Cuz I Got High

Sunday, October 5, 2008

It's not what you think........

I went to pick up some sound equipment in Brockport today. I had to climb the crow's nest to get Chris's mixer and PA.

I used to climb a lot when I was a kid. Like, everything climbable I'd climb. But I guess enough falls and injuries knocked some sense into me. I took some pictures of the black box from up there and thought I'd share.

That's the black box from above the stage area.

The black box lighting.

Kinda scarey...

Happy birthday Meg....

Saved a Girl at Taco Bell

Saturday, October 4, 2008

So I went to Taco Bell today (I was jonesing for a quesadilla) and I ordered my food. There was a guy standing at the counter, obviousely pissed off about something. A manager walked by, and he started yelling at her about how it's taking too long to get his food. He said "That's all you do! Make food! This is supposed to be FAST food!" He also said "10 minutes?!?! 10 minutes isn't fast food! This is taking too long!" He then looked at me and said "Right? This shouldn't take this long. I'm right. Right? You know what I mean." I decided, well, let's be honest.......So I was. I responded "In all honesty dood, I have to take her side on this one. If this 10 minutes is really an issue, if this whole 10 minutes is really what through your whole day off, and if this 10 minutes was really too long, then I think you need to loosen your schedule." He got all irritated and I said "Look, in all honesty, her job is hard enough without ignorant people like you. Really, put yourself in her shoes." He got pissed and stomped out, and I got a free taco :D

Tacos rule.....
